week 5- 5301

As an overall reflection, this course was challenging and interesting at the same time.  What I mean regarding challenging is that there were lengthy assignments due with a small time frame to complete. The whole time I was taking this course, at the back of my head I kept thinking if I was going to finish before the deadline. This was worrisome through the process, but in the end I was able to persevere and complete the all of the assignments on time. The interesting part is how I developed an understanding for the materials and information given and was able to relate to it at a personal level. Before taking this course, I was vaguely familiar with the term “action research” through prior studies, but was not able to grasp a detailed understanding until completing the materials. The course materials and tools given were very informative and helpful with grasping the ideology behind the term and method of “action research.”
Of the two books given to use and read through, I found that “Leading with Passion and Knowledge: The Principal as Action Researcher” by Nancy Dana Fichtman, was a better and more informative read. I could relate more easily though the aide of anecdotes and personal insight. I felt that I was able to develop a more in depth understanding with the assistance of “The Road Map” and the different strategies involved in the process. This provides a more systematic overview to action research in its entirety.
Since leaving undergrad, I had not been actively involved in blogging or discussion boards and a lot has changed in the last several years with technology. I will say that I did enjoy the blogging process. It was a more relaxed environment for us to display our thoughts towards the material being taught. It was nice to not worry about the strain of citing APA sources and it was neat how technology allows us to gain commentaries from my colleagues state wide. This was a great tool for assisting in motivating myself to achieve a better understanding and I was able to mold some of my personal thoughts based on the reflections of others. The discussion board was a little more active in responses and I truly feel that based on other’s posts, that we all had a fair understanding of the topics being discussed. It was also motivational personally to see that others could relate to the personal experiences that I have regarding my experience in Physical Education.
Through the entire class, I feel I gained valuable information that will be able to assist me in the future within my personal and professional career. I will definitely recommend this course and the literature given as tools to others for professional development in the future.
